Cytopathology

Cytopathology is a specialized field within pathology that focuses on the study of individual cells to diagnose diseases. Cytopathologists examine cells collected through procedures like fine-needle aspirations, Pap smears, and body fluid analyses to detect abnormalities, particularly cancerous or precancerous changes. This non-invasive approach allows for early disease detection and treatment planning. Cytopathology also plays a critical role in diagnosing infections and inflammatory conditions. Advances in technology, including molecular testing and automation, have further enhanced the accuracy and efficiency of cytopathology. This field is indispensable in improving patient outcomes, preventing disease progression, and contributing to our understanding of cellular health and pathology.
